During the second quarter of 2021, the top communication apps on the Android platform in Portugal exhibited varied performance trends in terms of downloads and active users, according to data from Sensor Tower.

WhatsApp Messenger maintained a strong presence with weekly downloads beginning at approximately 9K and experiencing a slight dip mid-quarter, reaching around 6.7K, before rebounding to 7.3K by the end of June. The app's weekly active users remained relatively stable, hovering around 4.6M throughout the quarter.

Telegram saw its weekly downloads peak at 14K at the beginning of the quarter, followed by a decline to about 6K by the end of June. The app's active user base also showed a downward trend, starting at 395K and decreasing to 335K over the same period.

Messenger from Meta Platforms saw steady weekly downloads, with numbers fluctuating between 8K and 6K. Its weekly active users remained consistent, slightly decreasing from 1.84M to 1.81M by the end of June. Revenue for Messenger was minimal, with weekly figures varying from $2 to $62.

Discord - Talk, Play, Hang Out had a consistent revenue stream, peaking at $1.9K in early June. Weekly downloads started at 7.9K and gradually declined to 4.1K by the end of the quarter. Its active users decreased from 319K to 273K over the same period.

Finally, Brave Private Web Browser, VPN experienced a notable surge in weekly downloads, peaking at 7.4K in April before stabilizing around 3.2K by the end of June. The app's active user base showed a steady increase, reaching 208K by the end of the quarter.
